Keynote Speakers Announced
The keynote speakers at the 2010 Summit for Recycling will provide something for everyone. Whether you’re a recycling industry veteran wanting perspective on what the economic future holds or are keen to know how to establish and maintain groundbreaking environmental programs in your organization, the Summit will set you on the road to the future.
These individuals are among the leading voices - and experts – in recycling, sustainability, and the economy:
- Jim Evanoff, Environmental Protection Specialist at Yellowstone National Park, will speak at 7:45 a.m., June 7. Evanoff has been with the National Park Service for the past 28 years. He currently identifies and oversees many of Yellowstone’s sustainability initiatives and environmental programs, in addition to providing guidance to many other national parks for achieving sound environmental stewardship. Jim’s Evanoff’s Keynote speech, Sustaining Yellowstone National Park: A 138 Year Journey, will take attendees on a journey into the parks rich history of managing waste and how Yellowstone has emerged as a leader in the national park system for instituting creative recycling solutions.
- Carl Steidtmann, Chief Economist and Director of Deloitte Research – Consumer Business, will speak at noon, June 7. Steidtmann is a nationally recognized expert on economic forecasting of retail sales activity, consumer trends, technology, and general economic trends. An award-winning instructor and systems analyst, Dr. Steidtmann was selected as one of the 25 most influential consultants in 2003 by Consulting Magazine for his work in consumer spending forecasting. He earned his Ph.D., master's and bachelor's degrees from the University of Colorado, majoring in economics, statistics, and history, respectively. Mr. Steidtmann will share his perspective on the impact that economic, demographic, political, and technological changes have on the recycling industry.
- Jerry Powell, Editor of Resource Recycling, will speak at noon, June 8. Powell is seen as a leader and visionary within the recycling community. Powell is the owner of three magazines (Resource Recycling, Plastics Recycling Update and E-Scrap News). In addition, he aids in the management of two annual conferences, The E-Scrap Conference and Exhibition, and The Plastics Recycling Conference and Exhibition. Both conferences are the world’s largest in their fields. Jerry Powell will share his perspective on the state of recycling in 2010 and beyond.
